Forging Partnerships to Build The nation
Sri Lanka has had a glorious past with many a landmark construction wonders that continue to amaze the world. Some of the unconventional architectural designs and building technologies used centuries ago, are considered engineering marvels achieved way ahead of their time, distinguishing our nation for its ingenuity. They stand proof that our very own local talent, armed with the right skills and technology, is capable of creating construction feats worthy of global acclaim. The country’s growth trajectory has spurred on the continuation of this capacity to date, and we strongly believe that our country has the potential to achieve even greater things in the field of construction.
As Sri Lanka’s market leader in manufacturing cement and concrete and as a fully home-grown industrialist, Tokyo Cement Group has made it our responsibility to help our industry leap forward with the required knowledge and skills. To achieve this objective, we have deployed a range of programs that work hand-in-hand with diverse stakeholder groups of the industry, so that we grow and reach higher, together.
We aim to foster a culture of innovation in the construction industry by creating platforms where new ideas, knowledge and experience gets shared, among peers and experts of the fraternity in Sri Lanka and around the world. We have offered to harness the benefits of our own ties with other countries; such as our partnership with Japan; considered a global leader in construction technology, to help nourish the local body of knowledge in the fields of structural and civil engineering fields. To allow this knowledge transfer we bring down industry experts from various parts of the world, to exchange knowledge at leading industry forums and seminars, where they share their research findings as well as experience in solving real-life problems.
We empower the nation by uplifting its professional stature through training and skill building programs. They include training sessions, seminars and discussion forums in partnership with professional organizations; whose depth and breadth of reach help us propagate our knowledge among a larger audience.
Improving national quality standards is another cause Tokyo Cement is deeply committed to, and that led us to reach out and successfully collaborate with multiple industry bodies. We were the first to lobby for the SLS standard to be introduced for Cement so that the Sri Lankan construction industry holds up its reputation by not allowing inferior quality products enter the market. This was a welcome gesture that opened up new opportunities for locally produced brands, to compete on a level playing field with imported brands that were in demand from the foreign collaborative construction projects.
Another primary focus area is enhancing the quality and availability of skilled knowledge workers among the structural and civil engineering professionals, who can become visionaries to propel our industry forward with unconventional thinking and creativity. To stimulate new thinking that pushes our industry forward, we work with practicing engineers, consultants, contractors and developers, as well as the academia, students and undergraduates from all the leading universities in the country and facilitate their efforts to enhance the body of knowledge available in the industry. By sponsoring undergraduate symposia of engineering students, we help create a conducive environment for new knowledge to flourish.
By partnering professional associations, we aim to strengthen their progressive growth and encourage them to push our industry to reach new heights. Through these concerted efforts with professionals and the academia we have been able to uplift the standard of the industry to be on par with any other country in the global arena.
