One of the biggest problems currently faced by the construction industry is the shortage of skilled labour. Having identified this gap ahead of its time, Tokyo Cement Group initiated a training program in Trincomalee in 2001, for Masons to obtain a skill certification from the National Apprentices and Industrial Training Authority. Taking this a step further in 2012, The A.Y.S. Gnanam Construction Training Academy was established in Dambulla, as a fully-fledged, formal training institute for Masons to upgrade their skill level with a NVQ certification. This qualification avails trainees to better employment opportunities, making it one of Tokyo Cement Group’s foremost citizenship initiatives. Since inception the academy has produced thousands of professionally qualified masons, who are active participants of the Nation Building exercise.
In addition to providing certification opportunities, Tokyo Cement Group also conducts capacity building seminars for Masons across the country. At these seminars, we share knowledge and expertise on efficient construction practices, new methodologies in building construction, and new product usage, in order to enhance the standard of workmanship of Masonry professionals.
Apart from educating and empowering masons, we also conduct awareness programs for Engineers, Technical Officers of Public & Private Sector and Contractors to boost their expertise in novel construction and engineering methodologies. These Seminars are offered free of charge to help share best practices and knowledge on innovative methods in the usage of cement, concrete and cement-based value-added products.
