The Annual Sessions 2019 of the Society of Structural Engineers Sri Lanka (SSE-SL), was held recently at the Cinnamon Lakeside. The event, organized with the patronage of the Tokyo Cement Group, had over 200 delegates comprising of engineers, consultants, construction professionals and developers as well as students and undergraduates from all the leading universities in the country in attendance.
The Annual Sessions is an esteemed platform created by the SSE-SL for the practicing Structural Engineering fraternity to showcase their ingenuity and share ground breaking ideas. The main objective was to foster a culture of scientific research and innovation among the Structural Engineering fraternity, through knowledge sharing on various construction related topics.
A key highlight of this year’s Annual Sessions was the participation of renowned engineering researcher Dr. Michael Henry, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Engineering of Hokkaido University in Sapporo, Japan. Dr. Henry’s visit was sponsored by Tokyo Cement Group, to deliver the Keynote Speech on the topic “International technology transfer for life cycle management of road bridge infrastructure: conceptual framework and examples from Myanmar and Thailand”. Dr. Henry shared his learnings in applying latest analytical techniques to evaluate the durability of bridges.
Tokyo Cement Group came forward as the Sole Sponsor of SSE-SL’s Annual Sessions 2019 with the aim of facilitating knowledge sharing among structural engineers, who play a critical role in the country’s growth and development agenda.
In addition to the Annual Sessions, Tokyo Cement Group was also the Sole Sponsor of four Question Time discussion forums of the Society, held during 2019. Tokyo Cement had the privilege of continuing the long-standing corporate partnership with the SSE-SL for the fourth consecutive year. By becoming the Principal Sponsor of these main events of the pre-eminent professional body, Tokyo Cement intends to inspire our engineering professionals who add impetus to the industry.
